Meaning of Chhath Puja
Chhath Puja festival is celebrated on the month of Kartika on the sixth day. In this chhath puja Sun God is worshipped.
Chhath Puja Vidhi & Rituals
On the auspicious occasion of Chhath Puja, those observing a fast are required to rise early, perform ablutions, and don fresh attire. Individuals residing near a sacred river have the option to immerse themselves in its holy waters, while those at a distance can enhance their bathing water by adding a few drops of Ganga water.
After bathing, ladies must start prepping up for the puja.
- 1-2 cane with a winnow must be decorated. you can use red color for this decoration.
- All the puja items must be washed. Vegetables or fruits to be washed in clean tap water very well.
- the basket should be covered with red cover and even seen by family members.
- perform the morning morning arghya with coconut, ginger, pumpkin, cucumber, bananas, yam, groundnuts,and sprouted chana. By keeping the basket aside.
- The concoct the Thekua by using flour, jaggery or sugar ghee and prep up the bhog. after these all gear up for the evening puja.
- Now in next step go towards the nearby lake, river, pond, whichever is nearby to your home.
- After puja location, pray to the water body and then create a Mandap with four solid sugarcanes.
- Create an square and plant the sugarcane in the mud by combining its top.
- create a mold in the sugarcane mandap using mud available on river banks and call Chhathi Mata.
- Offer seven oil or ghee lamps to the deity. Keep lighting these lamps at night and use it to next morning.
- Afterward, it’s time to offer Akshat, incense sticks, a generous amount of vermillion, bhog, flowers, a new saree and thekua.
- Offer Rice which is harvested within 60 days (also called Saathi ka chawal).
- Prayer Chhathi Maiya for the sound health and happiness of your family.
- At the time of setting Sun prayer is a must.
- Return home and prepare for next morning puja.
